Missions Committee News and Information

The Missions Committee oversees missions in general for CBC. More than one half of our budget goes to the CO-OP program of Southern Baptist Convention for International and North American Missions and UBA for church planting. We supplement that with our Lottie Moon and Annie Armstrong offerings. We have met our offering goals every year including this one with the grace of God.

We have on-going yearly support with various missionaries: Mitsu & Karen Nakurmura & family, Johnny & Jenny Jones and Cenia Wong. In addition, we encourage you to give directly to their organizations specifically for their benefit in any amount and any time period. For information on how to contribute, please contact any mission committee member. They will surely appreciate the interest, support and prayers. To see the latest news on our missionaries, please see our bulletin board in the office foyer. We also support various Chinese missionary organizations and media outlets.

Local Projects

  • Gano Missions with food donations
  • Fort Bend Womens Shelter with general donations: contact Sue Chiang
Our spring donation collection will be on April 19, 2020. The Fort Bend Women Center is nonprofit organization to help women and children in domestic violence situations.
  • Mrs. Esther Quan and Wanda Choi have been making efforts to connect with UH, HBU, TCM, and Baptist Student Ministries through various luncheons.
  • The Bereans Sunday School class coordinates the Seaman's Project, an annual Christmas outreach ministry with care packages donated to seamen at the Port of Houston.
    • December, 2020 Donations: CBC has partnered with the Houston Seafarers Center (houstonseafarers.com) and its Christmas Shoebox Program for many years. Despite the difficulties with COVID this year, CBC assembled and delivered 50 shoeboxes to the Port of Houston in early December. Through this program, many seafarers who dock at the Port of Houston between Thanksgiving and Christmas will be gifted with a shoebox of items such as toiletries, pen and paper, socks, reading material, etc. Most of these seafarers are away from friends and family during this time, and with no ability to receive packages. It can be a lonely time. The shoeboxes are a way for all ages of CBC to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and show the love of Christ to the seafarers. View Photos
  • Local Homeless Missions Project distributes clothing to the homeless and looks for opportunities to share the gospel. The missions project also provides free pet care such as vaccinations, deworming, parasite treatment, and minor medical problems for dogs and cats of homeless people.

If you have any suggestions to enrich the missions outreach, contact any committee members: Gene Yee, Willie Wong, Arlene Ligh, Michael Yuen, Cindy Lew and Peter Shi.

We encourage our members to see if God calls you for a mission project. Contact us and let us see if CBC can assist you. We have many possibilities and directions we can take in the future; we can't do everything, but we will try to prioritize and help with our Church Vision and our Lord in mind.
