Embracing a Spirit-Filled Life
Galatians 5:13-26

How do you live a life pleasing to God?

Living by the Spirit. (vs. 16)
2 ways we can abort God’s control:
1) Quench the Spirit (1 Thess. 5:19, Acts 7:51)

2) Grieve the Spirit (Eph. 4:30)

We know we are walking in the Spirit when desiresproduced by the Spirit  are greater than desires produced by the sinful nature.

How to live a Spirit-filled life:

1) Acknowledge the presence of the Spirit. (1 Cor. 3:16, Jn. 14:17)

2) Admit our inability. (Rom. 7:18, 8:7)

3) Ask for the Spirit’s control. (Ezek. 36:26-27)

4) Act in faith. (Gal. 5:5-6, 2:20)

Jesus’ Gifts to Us

I. We give Him worries; He gives us peace.

      Doing so we remember:

1) God is in control.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they?"  Matt. 6:25-26

2) God cares

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."  1 Pet. 5:7

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."  Jn. 14:27

How: prayer

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."  Phil. 4:6-7

II. We give Him hurts; He gives us healing.
"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve my life; you stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes, with your right hand you save me."  Ps. 138:7

How:  ministy

"[God] who  comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."  2 Cor. 1:4

III.       We give Him wrongs; He gives us  grace.
"But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord."  Lk. 2:10-11

"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  Rom. 5:8

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast."  Eph. 2:8-9

How: accepting Jesus

"Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."  Jn. 4:10

"That if you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,  you will be saved."  Rom. 10:9
