A Radical Standard
Ephesians 4:25-5:2

Characteristics of the new self:

I. Our Mouth. (vs. 25, 29)

      a) Replacing lies with truth-telling.
          Why?  - we are one body.

      b) Replacing hurtful words with helpful ones.
          Why?  -  to benefit others.

II. Our Hands. (vs. 28)

      Our choices:

a) Get
b) Gain
c) Give
III. Our Emotions. (vs. 26-27, 3l-32)

       a) Right anger

It is God - based
It grieves (Mk. 3:5)
It is brief
       b) Replace anger with forgiveness.

IV. The key:

       Living by faith. (vs. 30)
       Gal. 5:22, Gal. 3:2-3

Ephesians 5:3-14

Thankfulness
I. Thank God for His grace and mercy (vs. 3-6)
      Thankfulness is the gateway to moral discernment.

      A. Thanksgiving is the safeguard against immorality (vs. 3-4)

      B. Discernment lives now in light of the future (vs. 5-6)
 

Fruitfulness
II. Live like you mean it (vs. 7-12)
      Fruitfulness is the result of enlightened obedience.

      A. Act your age (vs. 7-8)

      B. Know your God (vs. 9-10)

      C. Shine your light (vs. 11-12)
 

Restoring Grace
III. Return to God’s grace (vs. 13-14)
       Restoration is the offer of divine grace for the ungrateful and the faithless.

       A. The double life is really death (v. 13)

       B. Rise from the dead (v. 14)
