SAVED ON PURPOSE FOR HIGH PURPOSE

I. GOD SAVED US ON PURPOSE! 1Pet 1:1-2

    A. We did not come to Christ on our own.
Rom 3:11 "There is no one who understands, no one who seeks God."
Isaiah 53:6  "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way..." (ESV)

    B. It was God who came looking for us!

II. GOD SAVED US ON PURPOSE FOR HIGH PURPOSE!

    A. He wants to enjoy with us a relationship in love. 1Pet 1:3, 8

        1. He desires a personal, warm, relationship in mutual love.

Jn 14:21 "Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.... (23) Jesus replied, 'If anyone loves me he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him'."
        2. He intends to treat us as intimatefriends.
John 15:15  "No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends..."  (ESV)
John 15:15  "...I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. (ESV)
Revelation 3:20  "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."  (ESV)

    B. He wants to develop in us a character like His. 1Pet 1:14-15, 22; 2:1-2

        1. His character is marked by righteousness and love.

            a. He enables us to live habitually and predictably in righteousness.

1 John 3:6 "No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.... (8) Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil..."  (ESV)
            b. He enables us to live habitually and predictably in love.
1 John 4:7  "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. (8) Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love." (ESV)
        2. This is necessary for friendship with the Holy One.
John 15:14 "You are my friends if you do what I command you." (ESV)
    C. He wants to include us as partners in His work. 1Pet 2:4-5, 9

        1. What is He doing? The same things He did on earth.

        2. He commissions us to join Him in His work.

        3. He’ll continue His work in the Kingdom to come.

Revelation 3:21  "The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne." cf 5:10 (ESV)
